Innovation

Here's a listing of the large Indian IT services companies that made it to the final round of the NASSCOM's Innovation Quest!

A. Genpact, a provider of business and technology services, came into existence in 1997. Since its inception, the company has been focusing on end-to-end BPO and IT services across key verticals, emerging as a leader within these segments.

Genpact has developed a special Predictive Retention Tool to attract, train and retrain top talent to work on its customers' processes and solutions. With this tool, Genpact has been able to control staff turnover. The tool, based on a Binary Logistic Regression Model, predicts attrition trends across Genpact and calculates the propensity of each employee to attrite, on a real-time basis. Relevant practices, initiated to mitigate the risk of attrition, are also monitored through this tool. The tool uses a customized model for different skill and job types and is capable of redesign at regular time intervals to capture current market trends. The Predictive Retention Tool enables managers to devise and implement proactive action plans to mitigate attrition. The tool also tracks the effectiveness of those retention practices, allowing managers to continuously improve them.

B. Infosys Technologies Limited -A India's leading software company, providing best-of-breed Consulting, IT Services and IT-Enabled Services.

The company has developed an innovative framework of systems and practices for effective knowledge exchange through a robust, scalable and evolutionary KM solution. A central feature of the Infosys KM solution is the concept of hierarchical and self-assessing knowledge communities, wherein members ensure relevance, currency and utility of the knowledge exchanged through a process of continuous quality assessment. This forms a common thread underlying the architecture of its systems, processes and people measures, and lays the basis for providing pertinent and useful knowledge at the spatial and temporal locus of its need. Self-assessment, in turn, is validated through rigorous statistical correlations with business benefits.

C. Tata Consultancy Services - India's Number One IT services.

The company has developed Bio-Suite, a comprehensive, portable, versatile software suite for bioinformatics (computational biology), consisting of about 170 algorithms, 700,000 lines of C++ code, written for maintainability and upgradeability as hardware and software platforms change. The tool covers all the major functional areas of Bioinformatics like Sequence and Genome analysis, comparative genomics, 3D structure modelling and Analysis of proteins, Biological macro molecular simulations and Drug Design modules. Bio-Suite will serve the needs of the research and pharmaceutical/biotech community for at least next ten years. This package can be used to analyze, formulate, predict and provide solutions to specific areas in computational biology.

D.Wipro Technologies - Set up in 1945, the Wipro Group has occupied a leading position in the IT-ITES space.

Wipro Technologies has developed the Global Command Centre (GCC), an innovative solution for delivering IT infrastructure remote management services. The product exemplifies a paradigm shift since it offers a fully automated, secure, efficient, fault tolerant and world class solution from offshore. Services with such strong value proposition have been offered only onsite traditionally.

GCC's remote delivery model reduces the onsite service costs. It also encompasses proactive monitoring of IT with event correlation, thus drastically reducing system downtimes and user dissatisfaction levels. GCC’s tool agnostic model ensures higher SLAs by supporting multiple Network Management Services tools making the MSP framework resilient. GCC also offers a virtualization of routine system administration tasks thus enabling the deskilling of the operator. GCC has a strong audit mechanism and a highly secure process for delivery user id and passwords.

The GCC is stated to have helped reduce staff strength by 24 percent after taking over services. It has reduced response time from 2 hours to 30 minutes cutting downtime. Owing to the GCC, a measurable infrastructure uptime of 99.95 percent has been achieved.
